Welcome to our Mom Care space. Since this is our first Mom Care post, I'm going to take the liberty of defining Mom Care because I've had too much school.
Let's have a small ponder before we get to it: have you noticed that so many things that are supposed to be focused on mom, they really end up focused on baby? Or making you feel guilty for your decisions? The shit that gets posted as Mom Care is usually basic human rights.
Well, fuck that.
Mom Care is NOT:
- Taking a shower/bath (personal hygiene, please do this)
- Going to the grocery store by yourself (chores, enjoy them if you can)
- Taking a nap (sleep is necessary for human function, take the fucking nap).
Mom Care IS:
- Getting the medical care you need, including taking care of things that aren't usually included, like back pain, diastis recti, pelvic floor therapy, etc.
- Getting a grip on your mental health and taking steps to get the support you need
- Taking time to remember who you are and doing what you like
- Having social time with friends that is not baby-anchored
- FUN. If you need a reason, it's important to your health
The Mom Care posts will be small ways to combat the mom guilt and bring you back to the you that has been there all along (it's just buried under diapers and shit).
For this first Mom Care post, we've designed a cocktail for you that pairs well with some of the above activities so that you can multi-task.
Just like us the Maia Gold is a little sweet a little sour and spicy enough to punch the patriarchy right in the balls.
The Maia Gold
- 2.5 oz jalapeño infused silver tequila
- 2 oz lime juice
- 1 oz simple syrup
- 0.5 oz mango puree
- 0.5 oz passion fruit puree
Pour all of that into a shaker full of ice.
Shake-a shake-a.
Pour it all out into an ice-filled glass.
For the jalapeño infused tequila, you can take your usual tequila, pour it into a 32 oz jar and add half a jalapeño. Let it sit overnight, and there it is. Otherwise, there are a few brands that have already done the work for you like Tanteo, 21 Seeds, and Manik. Dulce Vida has a pineapple jalapeño tequila that would also work well.
Mango and passionfruit purees may be available at your local liquor store. There's definitely a variety online. Or you can sub Liber & Co syrups. Or give your blender some action.
The Virgin Maia Gold
- 2 oz virgin tequila or water
- 1 oz jalapeño syrup
- 0.5 oz mango puree
- 0.5 oz passion fruit puree
Shake in an ice-filled cocktail shaker and pour over ice.
You can find jalapeño syrup online or make it yourself pretty easily.
And for extra convenience, because we all need extra convenience, make a bunch and save it in a jar. Just shake it first before pouring it!
Cheers, Mama, you've earned a drink.
