The story we're told about postpartum is a fantasy.
Blissful bonding time, quiet snuggles, joyful parenthood. Sunlit swaying among the dust motes. A seaside picnic in the gentle breeze.
A golden transformation into motherhood.
The truth is messier.
It's physically painful.
It's an emotional upheaval.
It's the trigger point for a crisis of identity.
And it's all done without sleeping bathing or eating properly.
While you may get a few of those moments of bliss, they're sparse.
Hearing the fantasy while living the messy truth makes us feel alienated and alone. It makes us feel like we're doing something wrong, like we don't deserve it. In the midst of the mess, it's a devastating contrast.
That doesn't mean it can't be beautiful. It's a profoundly difficult time, but it's a time of change, growth, and learning.
This month we will be gathering true stories of postpartum to share out so that none of us has to feel alone. Help us rewrite postpartum by sharing your own story, from any time during post-baby parenthood.
We will be holding a giveaway during the month of July. Everyone who submits a postpartum story will be entered to win a set of our Dream State Lingerie or a Strong as a Mother Mug.
Your stories will be featured on the blog and on Instagram. You can be anonymous if you prefer.
We can't wait to hear your stories!
